Dr. Serra has always had a passion for helping animals. She received her bachelors degree from NYU and then spent time working as a zoo keeper before going to Louisiana State University to pursue a veterinary degree. After graduating with honors, she continued her education by completing an internship at University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Veterinary Emergency Group, she worked for several years as an emergency doctor on Long Island and in New York City. In 2012, she traveled to Alaska to be a triage veterinarian for the dogs participating in the Iditarod sled race. Dr. Serra enjoys all aspects of emergency medicine; her particular professional interests include acute kidney injury, trauma, shock and wound management. In her free time, Dr. Serra enjoys spending time with friends and family, including her two cats, enjoying the arts and culture of the city as well as spending time outdoors: fishing, hiking and camping.
