Kali Sands, DVM

I attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL for my undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology while playing basketball for the college. Upon graduation from Huntingdon, I spent a year working for a specialty hospital where I worked closely with a veterinary ophthalmologist and dermatologist. My veterinary education was completed at University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. There, my education was focused on mixed animal medicine gaining experience with both production and companion animals.

Why Emergency Medicine:
I was never able to really explain why I loved emergency medicine before I came to VEG. I thought it was the fast pace and the variety of cases. Then, after starting with VEG, I was able to finally put it into words- I LOVE helping people and their pets when they need it most. That statement is what fuels my fire and makes me want to go to work every day.

Get to know me

If I were a superhero, my superpower would be:
I would love to be able to breathe underwater. There is so much to be seen under the surface of our oceans. It would be so cool to see what’s down there.

What are you happiest doing when you’re not working:
My family means everything to me! When I am not working, I am happiest spending time with my big crazy family!

What has been the most rewarding part of your career/position?
The most rewarding part of my career is working with an amazing group of people to help make incredibly difficult days even just a little bit easier for our customers. Seriously, the people I work with and work for are some of the most genuine and remarkable humans I have ever met. They make everything that I do possible.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is:
Give everyone the benefit of the doubt. You never know what people might be going through. Be kind. Be patient. Be honest.
