While I would’ve preferred to have never met this team under the circumstances of which I did, I could not be more grateful for the care provided by VEG Georgetown. I called around midnight after noticing really odd behavior with my elderly cat, and the team assured me they’d be awaiting our arrival. Examination began immediately, and the team got to work. After the team considered the possibility that some of the initial tests they were proposing wouldn’t benefit my cat’s care in the long term (it wasn’t looking good for him almost immediately), they went one by one to discover the root of the problem. By 4:30am my baby was gone, but he was shown a great deal of love in his last few hours. The team shared such great compassion and empathy with me, and I will never forget it. I just moved to DC a little over a month ago, and I felt really scared to be there alone to make the decision. However, they did their jobs and advocated for my baby first and foremost, and they gave me confidence that I was doing what was best for him. Fast forward two weeks- I’m having a bad day and I can’t get Jean Claude (my cat) off of my mind. I come home to find a condolences card in the mail with notes from about a dozen of their team members. They made it possible for me to honor my companion in his final hours with the same love he showed me for over a decade, and for that I’m grateful. Thank you, VEG.

I don't even know where to begin with this, as there is so much to express. We were on our way home from Southern Florida for a final few last days in the sun, since that is what our best friend Sadie loved so so much (we are from new England and is bitter cold this time of year). Sadie was a 13 year old lab mutt, who was the smartest, sassiest, and most loving dog who I rescued when she was 6 months old. She embraced the sun as she was originally from North Carolina, you could just watch the sun wrap around her and she basked in its warmth. Her mood changed so much when we started getting into the sunny states on our way down. She loved exploring the beautiful coast line, taking a naps on the beach, and visiting the pier. The last night before the trip home we were all on the porch at the hotel, warm and peaceful. She was looking at me like she always does, but this time it felt like an instant connection between the closest best friends ever, and I could feel her say "Dad, what an awesome ride we have had in this life together, but I'm tired". When we left to head home, sadly we had to stop in Washington D.C. as Sadie's health started to decline quickly. My girlfriend Maggie found VEG on Google and we rushed there, giving them a heads up that we were coming. I pulled up and there was a very nice man at the door urgently waiting. He and I rushed Sadie in and they instantly took her in and assessed her. Sadly I had to make the most heart breaking decision I have ever had to make in my life, and say good bye to my best friend. I cannot express how thankful I am to everyone on the VEG team that day. I instantly felt the trust to put Sadie's life in your hands. I am still in shock but also grateful from the level of dedication, compassion, and care that they give to all the furry patients. Not to mention the honesty, there was an error on the billing where we were charged extra and did not even notice it until they reached out to us and corrected it instantly. That right there is nearly impossible to find these days. Thank you again. Thank you for all you did for us during that heart breaking experience, and Thank you for the condolence card. Sadie, you will forever be missed, never forgotten, and absolutely irreplaceable. You are conning a snack from God right now I am sure. I will see you at the rainbow bridge.

I took my cat into Veterinary Emergency Group in Georgetown on February 3 because he swallowed a felt ball, requiring emergency surgery on his small intestine. The care team at VEG were outstandingly kind and competent. There were a few other patients that came in, but I never felt like me or my cat were ignored. They allowed us to have access to a private room for as long as we needed and were happy to answer any questions I had. Dr. P was especially helpful in explaining the process of the surgery and its potential risks, and even allowed me to watch through a window into the OR. While she was the expert, she made sure I gave informed consent to the treatment plan for my cat. I was very impressed with her calm confidence in operating on my cat. She had excellent bedside manners to him and to me. The veterinary technicians on the team also were friendly, well informed, and so beyond helpful with my scared and displeased kitty. The care team updated me at shift changes and were happy to give me updates and estimates on his recovery. They gave me a low and a high estimate of how much my cat's emergency care would cost. While it was pricey, it was on the low estimate that they had provided. I appreciate the transparency they provided with an itemized estimate and final invoice. Their office also provided information on a reliable lender to help finance the large bill. Overall, this is the best possible place to go during an emergency. This team truly cares about every animal and human that walks through their door. They have snacks available to the humans and make sure your animal is never without. They are extremely talented, kind, impressive people. I hope I won't need to walk through their doors again any time soon, but I know if I do, Arthur Schopenmeower and I will be in good hands.
