VEG in Larkspur is absolutely amazing! I am so grateful I chose to take my puppy there instead of the pet emergency center in San Rafael. My puppy, Stinson, was having a severe allergic reaction — she started scratching her face, rubbing it on the ground, and her eyes and face began swelling up. It was a Friday night around 9 p.m., and I rushed in, frantic, but was immediately greeted by the kindest nurse, Alexus. She began tending to Stinson right away. In contrast to past experiences at the San Rafael location, where I’ve had to wait for hours, there was no wait at VEG. One of the best things about their facility is that the design allows you to stay with your pet throughout the treatment. Being there with Stinson as she received care made the experience so much less stressful and frightening. The team quickly administered an injection of Benadryl and we waited to see the swelling reduce. Not long after, they sent us home with instructions to monitor her, assuring me to reach out if anything changed. After we got home, Stinson seemed a bit sleepy, but a few hours later, she started vomiting. I called VEG and, to my relief, they answered immediately and told me to bring her back in. When we arrived, they rechecked her vitals and performed an ultrasound. They discovered her gallbladder was filling with fluid, which meant she was going into anaphylactic shock. The staff acted swiftly, hooking her up to an IV, and decided to keep her overnight for monitoring — and they offered me the option to stay with her. They provided us with a private room that even included a bed, so I could stay close and comfort my puppy while she was hooked up to the IV. The care I received was extraordinary. The nurse checked in on Stinson every hour, which was a relief compared to the usual impersonal experience of dropping off your pet and waiting anxiously for news. At one point, they even made me tea at night and brought me coffee in the morning. Every member of the team, from the doctors to the nurses, was so compassionate and attentive. Even when the shift changed from night to day, the care and attention never wavered. I also appreciated how transparent they were about costs — they gave me a clear breakdown upfront, and I was pleasantly surprised with a generous refund at the end. I truly can’t recommend VEG enough. Thank you so much to the entire team for the incredible care you provided to both me and Stinson during such a scary time.

My dog ate large amounts of a rug and needed linear foreign body surgery. The staff is amazing, so attentive and kind. Always checking on both my dog and me, offering me snacks and coffee, and setting up a cute bed for me to sleep while my dog was in the OR since I had been up with her all night. My dog is also very anxious so I love that I was able to be present throughout the whole process.

When the emergency vets in San Francisco all had 8+ hour wait times last night, VEG was able to triage my pet right away. Doctor Savino and our veterinary assistant Brittany were incredibly kind and focused on our pup — they even lent us a blanket and joined us on the floor to chat about treatment plans while we soothed our boy! It’s obvious the moment you walk into VEG that all of the staff love animals and love their jobs. My favorite part was being able to be a part of my dog’s care when he was sedated and had his wounds cleaned. I held his head and kept him calm while Brittany and Dr Savino explained their observations and what we should watch for while he heals at home. This setup provided a much better experience than other emergency vets where we have waited for hours in the lobby with no eyes on our pet. I would highly recommend VEG! Edit to add: they accept CareCredit, too!
