Exceptional Emergency Care – Highly Recommend! Our fur baby has a collapsed trachea, and last night, he experienced a severe choking episode that we couldn’t get under control. It seemed like he wasn’t breathing, and we were terrified we were losing him. We rushed to VEG Emergency in Allen, as our vet recommended them for their full ER capabilities, including oxygen tanks and emergency care. The moment we walked in, the team sprang into action. A group of about 5-6 professionals immediately began triage, administering oxygen, an IV, and calming medications while monitoring his vitals. He spent several hours in an oxygen tank and received thorough exams, gabapentin, and other treatments. Throughout the process, we were able to stay with him, and the staff kept us informed every step of the way. What stood out most was their compassion and efficiency. Despite handling multiple emergencies—including a family with an unresponsive kitty, whom they fought tirelessly to save—the entire team remained professional, empathetic, and incredibly dedicated. Special thanks to Sarah at the front desk, Nicole (our tech), and Dr. Nickelberry, who were absolutely amazing. Every staff member we encountered provided top-notch care, making the experience feel like a human ER—only faster and with more empathy! We were also pleasantly surprised by the cost. For all the care and attention our pet received, it was less than $500, We've spent more than that on a sick visit to a vet many times before during business hours. The pictures after AFTER he was stabilized and just before release. Didn't get before pics, as it was too scary, and we were focused on his treatment, but what a difference it was.

Quite literally the best veterinary team out there. Every single person we interacted with was kind, supportive, and honest. We primarily worked with Dr. Woods and our nurse Lauren — both were incredibly patient and took the time to walk us through every possible option when June wasn’t feeling well. She ended up needing to be hospitalized for most of the day and we were able to stay with her the entire time. Seeing the level of care — not just for us, but for every pet and family around us — was honestly really special. It’s clear that this team TRULY cares — and in what could have been a really stressful few hours, we felt nothing but supported. June is now home, recovering, and well on her way back to normal. We are so SO grateful — and while I hope we don’t have to go back any time soon, I wouldn’t hesitate to take my pets there in an emergency!

I really hope they see this because I imagine they don't get to know how their cases turn out. On November 9th, my family and I found a 1 year old purbred Belgian Malinois. He had a broken leg, was 20 lbs underweight, and covered in ticks. All the Vets offices were closed, so we started calling around to the emergency hospitals. We really assumed he was someone's lost pet and were hoping for a reunification. However, just in case, we wanted to know what the process was if there was no chip. Sadly, many hospitals will put the animals down immediately. VEG had a program where they would work with the shelter to get the animals the humane care they needed. I drove the dog to the hospital, and to my shock, there was no chip. The full picture started to become clear. The dog had been backyard bred, starved, abused, dumped, and then hit by a car. They needed a name for his file, and I named him Chicken Nugget. The kids at the playground had been feeding him their chicken nuggets. I had always heard about emergency vets running unnecessary tests and essentially taking as much money as they could. Dr. Burnside was very kind and understood my husband and I are college students and did not have the money to pay an expensive vet bill. He did an exam and prescribed pain medication so we could get through the weekend until our vet opened on Monday. Although he didn't take X-rays based on the road rash and his speculation of being hit by the car, he took a guess at a diagnosis. Midshaft left femoral fracture. When we went to our vet on Monday and they did X-Rays, that's exactly what it was. Dr. Burnside also took the time to talk to me about feeding Nugget with chicken and rice in small frequent increments as he was 20+ lbs underweight. It's been over 3 months since that visit. The community came together to pay for Chicken Nugget's surgery, and he regained full mobility in his leg and is at a healthy weight. My family and I officially own 4 dogs now 😂 we named him Rocky
