Vet Nurses

At VEG, nursing is more than a job. We’ve transformed it into a fulfilling long-term career where you can grow in your role and use your skills to help people and their pets when they need it most. Veterinary nurses also receive industry-leading wages, plus equity after working here for one year—no exceptions and no investment required—because we want them to share in VEG’s success. Here at VEG, we refer to credentialed veterinary technicians as veterinary nurses because we think that's the role they play.

VEG veterinary nurses are experienced in ER care so they handle it all, from blood transfusions, to life saving CPR, to hands-on assistance during surgery. They play a fundamental role in the ER experience, whether advocating for sick pets, delivering treatments, or assessing patient needs and bringing them to a place of healing. And, there’s a path to build a future here, whether you advance your skills through our countless continuing education opportunities—from RECOVER CPR training to training to handle exotics—or in a leadership role. No matter which way your journey takes you, when you’re a veterinary nurse at VEG, you’re a veterinary superhero.

Becoming a veterinary assistant at VEG is a powerhouse role, as it leads to amazing experiences and career opportunities. You’re on the frontlines, performing basic to intermediate care tasks alongside highly-skilled ER vets and vet nurses. You’ll administer and understand the effects of medications and your day can run from collecting samples to running diagnostic testing to placing a catheter tube, under supervision. You’ll feel valued as you immerse yourself into a role that contributes to the emergency care process and customer experience.

Some highlights include:
  • Participating in the triage of incoming patients

  • Being an active participant in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care

  • Training for RECOVER certification to perform proper, life-saving CPR

  • Providing a comforting presence as you monitor patient progress

The VEG Veterinary Assistant is a position where you can learn and grow within an exciting, unique ER environment. At VEG, we do things the VEG Way, creating an exceptional customer experience that works for our staff (VEGgies!) too. As you learn and grow into your role, there are pathways to level up in, such as becoming a veterinary nurse supervisor or earning credentials and becoming a VEG veterinary nurse, trainer, and leader. You’ll thrive among encouraging staff and carry that positive VEG attitude with you wherever you go!

Not only are we transforming nursing at VEG, but we’re also working to support and advocate for the industry as a whole and create discussion and debate around the future of veterinary nursing. We do this through the VEG Nursing Council, a passionate group of VEGgies who act as a voice for veterinary nurses and leaders working to create action for change in the field.

The Council makes recommendations on a range of topics, including nursing quality, nursing guidelines, advocacy, and leadership. It also brings awareness to the issues veterinary nurses and assistants are most concerned about—from pay and work environment to growth opportunities and career recognition— in an effort to bring innovation and advancement to the profession.
