Career Opportunity for New Grads: VEG's Rotational Business Analyst Program

Building the world’s veterinary emergency company means giving our best every day, not only to our patients and their pet parents, but to our employees (aka VEGgies) too. At VEG, we’ve created an environment where we find ways to say YES to our VEGgies, helping them make more of their career experiences than they ever thought possible.

Supporting our team means constantly innovating to attract talent that shares our drive to move the company forward. The roles at VEG are thoughtfully designed to engage and inspire strategic and creative thinking, and lay the groundwork that lets our VEGgies grow where they want to go.

One of our most unique roles? The Rotational Business Analyst at VEG! True to our spirit of breaking the mold, we're giving new college grads the chance to deep-dive into multiple departments, gaining hands-on experience and discovering where their passion lies. It's a career-launching opportunity that helps them find their perfect professional fit—and set the stage to thrive in their future career.

Students who are graduating with a Bachelor’s degree by June 2025 can apply now to be a Rotational Business Analyst. This wide-ranging role places you in the center of various departments at VEG's White Plains, NY headquarters. (You guessed it, our VQ!)

A FOOT-IN-THE-DOOR OPPORTUNITY FOR COLLEGE GRADUATES

This 24-month rotation program is designed to give new grads insights into our company. We’re a fast-growing company with a startup vibe that encourages everyone to take ownership and lead with a vision, no matter your role. Candidates to the program do not need vet med experience; candidates should be interested in learning and growing. VEG is a place where anyone with ambition, interest, and heart for what we do can thrive.

Through learning and working within various departments like Marketing, Real Estate, Finance, and Talent Acquisition, our Rotational Analysts get a rare opportunity to take it all in, learn, and discover what path resonates best with them. Rotational Analysts at VEG gain amazing skills and insights, like:

  • Technical knowledge in core business functions

  • Developing strong financial literacy around a growing corporation

  • Understanding operations and management skills needed for a successful company

  • Flexing strategic problem-solving abilities

  • Receiving mentorship by coaches who are truly interested in their success

Another amazing feature to the program: Analysts will also interact with VEG's senior executives, for greater learning and understanding of what multi-level careers at VEG looks like.

Completion of the Rotational Business Analyst Program culminates into a full-time role within one of our corporate functions. This is based on business needs and the analyst's personal career interests.

We sat down with two VEG Rotational Analysts to discuss how this program has contributed to their business learnings and career growth. Josie Crockett and Emily Petruccelli are immersed in the program and are discovering new and exciting career avenues to explore. Let's hear it from them:

What initially drew you to VEG’s rotational program, and how has it aligned with your career goals so far?

JOSIE CROCKETT:  When I was job hunting, I was really drawn to rotational programs because I wasn’t ready to commit to a single path yet. I wanted to learn as much as possible about different areas, keep busy with challenging work, and see how the different parts of a company all come together. VEG’s program stood out immediately, but what really did it for me was the energy I felt in each interview. Everyone I spoke to was genuinely passionate about what they do, and there was this incredible mix of excitement and dedication that was contagious. It really stood out to me and was different from any other interview process I had.

A quote from VEG’s President David Glattstein really stuck with me: ‘We have the resources of a massive company, with the grit and focus of a startup.’ That spirit was exactly what I was looking for, and VEG felt like the perfect place to start my career and grow with a team that’s both ambitious and grounded. Now, four months into my first rotation, I can say this has proven true. I get to explore different departments and domains, bring scrappy ideas to the table that are actually listened to, and at the same time, I see the strong backing and resources that VEG has to support big ideas.

EMILY PETRUCCELLI: As a senior in college looking for my first full-time job, I was still unsure what I wanted to do. I always thought that if I wanted to pursue business, I would have to sacrifice some of my personal interests and passions in doing heartfelt, meaningful work. But VEG's rotational program gave me the best of both worlds: being able to grow my career by learning about the diverse functions of a rapidly growing business in a rapidly growing industry, while also contributing to a mission that I can get behind - helping people and their pets when they need it most.

Even though I’ve only been at VEG for a few months now, I’ve already had the opportunity to take the initiative on projects, see the impact of my work on the business, and work directly alongside senior leaders, all while being excited to come to work every day.

How has rotating through different departments shaped your understanding of VEG and the vet industry as a whole? Any surprising insights or challenges?

JOSIE: Even though I’m still in my first rotation, I’ve already learned so much about the unique challenges in veterinary medicine and just how vital culture is in the industry. I expected to experience the strong, supportive culture at VEG’s headquarters, but I didn’t realize how deeply it extends to the hospitals. Customers are drawn to VEG because they feel truly seen and cared for; our staff treats every person with empathy and kindness, not just as another case to manage.

What’s really surprised me is the contrast between VEG and much of the broader veterinary industry. I have lost count of how many times I’ve heard frontline staff share how they almost left veterinary medicine but found a renewed passion here at VEG. Their enthusiasm is contagious; they’re genuinely excited to work here, and it’s inspiring to see how VEG has created a much better experience for both staff and clients. Attending IVECCS, an emergency-focused veterinary conference, really highlighted this for me. VEG was a sponsor of IVECCS, and the excitement people had about us was undeniable. Hearing all those stories made me incredibly proud to work at a place that’s transforming veterinary care in such a positive way.

EMILY: Rotating through different departments has given me a much deeper understanding of VEG and the veterinary industry than I could have imagined, especially as someone with no prior experience in this field. Starting in Real Estate, I've been able to see how VEG’s expansion strategy is tailored to meet company goals and community needs, which shows how much thought goes into the placement of each location to ensure accessibility for pet owners.

It has been enlightening to learn how quickly the veterinary industry is growing, and how VEG is driving innovation and growth within an industry that had previously been stagnant. Being a part of something that is changing a rapidly growing industry is incredibly exciting, and truly inspires me to work hard and continue learning as much as possible. For me, it's also been eye-opening to see how business decisions directly impact our mission to help people and their pets. This rotation has highlighted the unique blend of compassion and strategic thinking that defines VEG, and I’m looking forward to seeing how other departments contribute to this mission as I continue the program.

Can you share an experience where cross-functional collaboration was crucial to a project? How did working with different teams (like Marketing, Finance, or Talent Acquisition) impact your approach?

JOSIE: One big project I’ve worked on involves reworking VEG’s philanthropy program, VEG Cares, which has been a huge learning experience in cross-functional collaboration. Developing a compelling pitch for this program meant considering a range of perspectives: the financial framework, creative vision, marketing strategy, and even the logistics of implementation. Initially, it felt overwhelming as I prepared for my first real pitch in a professional setting, but what has made the project more achievable is the support from colleagues across departments.

Everyone at VEG is genuinely committed to helping each other, and reaching out to different teams quickly became an essential part of my process. Each person I connected with not only offered insights specific to their area, like creative approaches or financial strategy, but they also encouraged me to think differently. I was also surprised by how often people would check back with more ideas they thought of later on. It has really made a challenging project more approachable and inspiring.

This experience not only broadened my understanding of VEG but has also deepened my appreciation for the way each department is interconnected, which has positively shaped my approach to bigger projects.

EMILY: Cross-functional collaboration and working in person at VQ has been one of the highlights of the analyst program for me thus far. During my first rotation on the Real Estate team, I’ve learned just how important this collaboration truly is, especially as the company continues to grow. For example, the Real Estate team at VEG works tirelessly to find new markets in need of a VEG, but we would not be able to open a hospital, no matter how perfect the market, without close collaboration with the Talent team, which has the difficult task of staffing all of the frontline roles in a VEG hospital.

Seeing how each function supports the company’s mission has not only broadened my perspective but has also motivated me to approach my work with a greater appreciation for the collective effort driving VEG’s growth, and excites me about the potential to continue to rotate through different departments over the next two years.

What skills have you developed during the program that you think will be most valuable for your future role, and how have mentors supported your growth along the way?

JOSIE: So far, the biggest skill I’ve developed in the program has been learning to take initiative. Being proactive has really helped me make the most of my rotation so far, especially as I’m new to the professional space and still learning the ropes. I’ve become comfortable asking questions (lots of them!), and the more questions I ask, the more I learn about VEG, the industry, and areas outside my current department. Whenever I reach out, I’m met with not just answers but with in-depth feedback and guidance that really broadens my perspective. If someone doesn’t have the answer, they’re quick to connect me with someone who does, and they always follow up to see how it went. It’s this continuous support that makes me feel like I have a whole team of mentors here, all invested in my growth and helping me develop skills that I know will be invaluable down the road.

EMILY: This program is unique in that it allows rotational analysts to develop both technical knowledge and soft skills that will certainly follow us throughout the rest of our careers. I've learned how to be flexible and adaptable across various business areas, as well as how to continue learning and asking questions whenever possible, which has been invaluable as each project and rotation brings new challenges. On the technical side, my first rotation in Real Estate has given me insight into the strategic planning of VEG's expansion, helping me understand our growth trajectory over the next 5+ years. This experience built a foundation in strategic thinking and analytical skills that I know will be assets as I contribute to future projects at VEG. The support of my teammates and mentors to gain all of this experience has been crucial in building my confidence and skill set, preparing me to add meaningful value to VEG, no matter where my path leads within the company.

At VEG, we strive to create unexpected career experiences and find ways to say ‘yes’ to help our VEGgies achieve them. How have you seen this play out in your role as a rotational analyst/ What’s something unexpected you've been able to do in this program, and how has it influenced your perspective?

JOSIE: One of the most unexpected and impactful parts of this program has been the direct access to VEG’s C-suite executives. Not only does my work involve collaborating with our Chief Marketing Officer, but the founders also know me personally, greeting me by name when they walk by my desk. I’ve had several coffee chats with them, and the other analyst and I even have a hospital visit scheduled with one of the co-founders. This level of interaction has made me feel genuinely valued and reinforces just how special VEG is. I’m in an environment where I can learn from people at every level, and it’s given me a new appreciation for a culture that’s open, supportive, and truly invested in everyone’s growth.

EMILY: When I first started as a rotational analyst at VEG in July, I expected to learn a lot and gain professional experience, but I never expected that just a few months into my first rotation I would be able to interact directly with senior leaders and add value in a way that I can see the impact of my contributions. I’ve been able to work directly with and receive mentorship from VEGgies with a ton of experience and career success, which has inspired me to think about how to drive my own career and make the most of my professional experiences.

I was both shocked and excited to see how each person at VQ directly impacts the success of our business and how the hospitals function. For example, I’ve been really inspired by the small but mighty Real Estate team, who is driving VEG’s rapid expansion. The ability to be a part of a small team with massive responsibilities has allowed me to quickly become an active member of the team, contributing to VEG’s success and driving growth and innovation in a meaningful way even though I did not have any prior experience in the industry.

The rotational program has offered a unique lens into business functions I hadn’t previously considered, broadening my understanding of how each department drives VEG's mission. For instance, my first rotation with the Real Estate team exposed me to a business function that I had never thought about. I was shocked to see how important Real Estate is to the business as a whole, and how dynamic the field is across industries. Being able to tour markets and talk to real estate professionals across the country is not something that I ever imagined myself doing, but I am absolutely loving this opportunity and it has even encouraged me to think about what a future in real estate might look like. VEG’s rotational program has allowed me to learn an unexpected but critical part of the business, and I know that the experiences and knowledge from this rotation will stick with me throughout the rest of my career.

VEG put together the rotational analyst program to build the next generation of leaders at our company. Our goal is to provide new graduates with a comprehensive understanding of all areas of our business, in order to create strong generalists who can grow with our rocketship! Now that you’ve heard from Josie and Emily how much they’re growing and learning from this program, the next step is up to you!
