Dr. David Bessler was born and raised in Rockland County, New York. He received his bachelors in Animal Science from Cornell University in 1999, and his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from The University of Pennsylvania in 2003. He completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Center for Specialized Veterinary Care on Long Island and remained there for two years as the Director of Emergency and Critical Care. Dr. Bessler then headed the emergency service at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Manhattan where he worked for 8 years.
In January of 2014 Dr. Bessler became the owner and medical director of The Veterinary Emergency Group which was founded by Westchester’s community of veterinarians over 25 years ago to provide high quality emergency veterinary care after hours and on weekends. Dr. Bessler believes in treating people and their pets with warmth, care, and respect. He brings to VEG a renewed sense of community, emphasis on topnotch medical care, and an unsurpassed level of customer service.
Dr. Bessler enjoys reading the classics, hiking and camping, and spending time with his family. He has been a date farmer, worked on an elephant farm, and been a commander in Israel’s Special Forces. He and his wife, Marni, have 3 boys, and a cat named Lucy.
